Finnish national parks were extremely popular in 2021. In total, Finland’s 40 national parks gathered over 4 million visits in 2021. While the Bothnian Bay National Park gathered only 6 300 visits, the most popular park was the the Pallas-Yllästunturi national park with almost 700 000 visits.
In total, all recreational areas managed by the Metsähallitus gathered over 8.5 million visits in 2021. These include national parks, national hiking areas, cultural heritage sites and other protected areas.
Naturally all these numbers are just estimates. They are based on the data collected with electronic counters on hiking trails and in hiking facilities. The real number of visits might be even bigger.
