Vanhankaupunginkoski (Old Town Rapids in English) is an important part of Helsinki’s history. This is the place where the trading town was originally established in 1550 by the rapids of the Vantaa river. Finland’s capital has grown a lot since, but Vanhankaupunginkoski in still one of the must places to visit in Helsinki.
The main attractions are the rapids of the Vantaa river, the dam and waterfall, Matinkaari bridge, the Museum of Technology, restaurant and the park area on both sides of the bay. The Museum of Technology is located in an old buildings that were constructed as the first waterworks in Finland almost 150 years ago. By the dam there was an old power plant that is now a museum.
